About
HISTORY 1817 The Altstadtbrauhaus Zum Stadtkrug, located next to the Capitol cinema, is a piece of Schwerin tradition. At this point there was an inn since 1817, from which the Tonhalle was created. It became a first-rate entertainment center in Schwerin. 1830 In 1830, Johann Klöres acquired the inn, which in 1851 received a hall extension for 800 people. 1855 In 1855, his son Heinrich Klöres began performing "musical performances". 1859 In 1859 the front building was extended and another large dining room with 500 seats was built. The name of the Klöresgang next to the building in the Schweriner Höfe is reminiscent of the restaurateur today. 1888 In 1888 Wilhelm Albrecht took over the Tonhalle. During this time, a small hall with 300 seats was added. At that time, the Tonhalle had a capacity that is hard to imagine today. There were regular theater performances, operetta companies, summer theater, variety shows and club meetings. 1890 The Schwerin Singakademie under Traugott Ochs performed in the town hall. He knew how to hire famous soloists from other theaters in Germany. The members of the Mecklenburg court were often guests of the house and in 1890 the Russian Grand Duke Vladimir Romanov. 1914 During the First World War the Tonhalle had to be used as a mass accommodation for soldiers. In the following years it was again the cultural center of the city, especially the summer theater and the regular evening concerts on Saturdays were attractions. 1920 On December 9, 1920, a devastating fire destroyed the large hall, the two smaller ones were damaged. Clubs migrate, constant change of owners and tenants. The “Tonhalle” is going downhill, most recently the comradeship home of the 1st Battalion of the Grenadier Regiment 89. 1936 Beginning of the demolition of the “Tonhallen”, construction of a new building complex with the most modern film theater in Germany at that time by Willy Dürkopp, film and variety events, construction of the “Stadtkrug” for 280 guests. 1937 February 12, 1937, tenant Willy Bruhns and wife opened the “Stadtkrug”. The daily newspaper described the furnishings in the style of that time: "... a cozy restaurant where everyone from the city can feel comfortable. 1949 Takeover of the “Stadtkrug” by the state HO. 4 decades without significant changes in the furnishings or the offer of the popular restaurant in Schwerin until the end of the 1980s. 1990 As in many other restaurants in Schwerin, there were several changes of operator starting in the 1990s. At first it was known as a steak house. 1995 In February 1995 the restaurant opened with the new name Schall & Knall. This is how a well-known Schwerin brewery was called, the iron beer bottles of which could once be opened with a loud bang. In the dining room there was now a large copper kettle in which beer was brewed. 1998 the end, almost 3 years vacancy. 2001 In August 2001 Hans-Ulrich Trosien took over the Stadtkrug and renamed it the Altstadtbrauhaus Zum Stadtkrug. In addition to the existing brewing kettle. Schwerin Altstadtbräu in the varieties light and dark tasted the guests. The dishes were down to earth and hearty. 2012 On January 19, 2012 Anke and Thomas Niendorf opened the restaurant while keeping the previous name. In a very short conversion time, the guest room, sanitary area and kitchen were renovated. UNTIL TODAY: North German brewery culture with typical dishes and experience gastronomy
